Swine Flu: What YOU can do!

Alcohol Hand Sanitizer: An essential swine flu beating productUnless you've been living under a rock for the last year, you'll know all about swine flu. Some people think it's a deadly epidemic, whilst others think the media is guilty of sensationalist reporting and creating mass hysteria. Whatever you believe, one thing is clear: swine flu can potentially be a serious ilness and - like all infections - prevention is far better than treatment.

You could be mistaken for thinking drastic steps are needed to protect your family against swine flu, but in reality the advice is similar to dealing with any contagious viruses such as the common cold. Germs can spread very easily, so it's important to kill germs before they have the chance. You can increase your chances of avoiding swine flu by following some very basic hygiene steps.

1. Catch sneezes, bin the tissue and wash your hands.

This is the most important thing you can do. Sneezes can expel up to 40,000 droplets which - if they carry infection - can spread far and wide, infecting both the air and household surfaces. Catch your sneeze in a tissue, flush or bin the tissue and then either wash your hands with an antibacterial cleanser or use a alcohol based hand sanitizer to kill all germs.

2. Disinfect household surfaces.

We recently talked about the importance of disinfecting food preparation surfaces and we can't stress this enough when it comes to making sure your home is free of viruses. Not only do you want to ensure any sneeze particulates aren't allowed to linger, but that you don't catch any of the horrible infections that spread through food, such as salmonella. After all, beating swine flu is also about keeping a healthy immune system so if you do happen to catch it, your body can fight it more easily. You should use a good quality bactericidal cleaner to kill up to 99.9% of common bacteria and viruses.

To help, we've put together a specialist swine flu products section so you can buy everything you need to keep your family safe. Then, check out our catering supplies and pick up a bactericidal cleanser for all your food preparation surfaces. That way you can avoid swine flu altogether!
